A leather bookbinding with a miniature painting or paintings inset on its covers. Named after Richard Cosway (c. 1742-1821), an English miniaturist, although he had nothing to do with creating this type of binding. Cosway bindings were introduced early in the 20th century, probably by Henry Sotheran booksellers or their manager, J. Harrison Stonehouse. True Cosway bindings are the work of Robert Rivière, are bound in quality Levant morocco, with morocco joints, watered silk linings, and the miniatures painted on ivory, glazed, and inset in the covers. Here's an example.
